Security Risk Management Body of Knowledge

SRMBOKThe Security Risk Management Body of Knowledge (SRMBOK) is the first comprehensive best practice guide for practitioners and will be released in May 2007.

The Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA) will be launching the Security Risk Management Body of Knowledge (SRMBOK) at the Security Professionals' Congress on 8th May 07.

SRMBOK has been built by subject matter experts from all areas of security risk management and will quickly become a pivotal global reference document for all with an accountability or responsibility for security risk management. SRMBOK describes the sum of knowledge within the practice of security risk management and includes widely accepted traditional practices as well as innovative and advanced practices to meet evolving needs.

Equally applicable to security risk managers from any practice area (physical, information or people), this manual provides practical assistance, tools and templates across major headings such as Governance, Knowledge Areas, Competency Areas, Practice Areas, Case Studies and a standardized glossary of security risk management terms.

Among other things, SRMBOK will resolve elements such as:

  • Agreed definitions for SRM terms such as threat vs risk
  • Demonstrating return on security investment
  • Align Australian and international risk management and security standards and guidelines to support interoperability between similar systems.
  • Principles for benchmarking security risk management effectiveness and allow an ‘apples for apples’ benchmarking of security risk assessments or treatments
  • A framework for critical knowledge , competency and practice areas which managers, practitioners, students and academics alike can apply to recruit, train, educate and measure performance
  • Aligning supply chain and critical infrastructure protection methodologies in the security context
  • Structured frameworks for root cause analysis, investigations and ‘red-team’ exercises which offer a robust, repeatable and consistent process

The SRMBOK is a product of the Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA).

All two-day Congress registrations received before 15 April 2007 will receive a complementary edition of the SRMBOK, valued at $385 rrp.
